Web Editor/Producer, Physicians for Human Rights
The Web Editor/Producer plans and prepares website content to support advocacy, research, development and constituency outreach for all PHR projects.
S/he functions as the content editor/designer for designated sections of the website; manages the day-to-day updating of those sections; plans new content, including video and audio materials; and creates ads and manages online marketing for PHR campaigns. This position will play a key role in the continued development of PHR's Convio-based web tools for advocacy and fundraising and assist in the development of PHR's Web 2.0 community tools. The Web Editor/Producer joins a dynamic web team of three full-time creative professionals based in Cambridge, MA.
Responsibilities include:
Plan and produce web content in engaging and effective ways, using Convio/Get Active modules and website management:
a) Produce audio podcasts and video content for the web, especially PHR's YouTube channel.
b) Produce member profiles for specific PHR programs.
c)In collaboration with the Web Community Coordinator, plan the production of web content to coordinate with email advocacy and fundraising campaigns.
d) Work closely with Development Department on fundraising pages of website
Collaborate on development of PHR's online community via production of online forums, slideshows, widgets and blog content, with Web Community Coordinator.
Monitor website content to ensure that it is up-to-date and correct:
a) Periodically review top-level pages of the site and those sections for which s/he is responsible.
b) Contact appropriate program staff about needed web content changes and see that these are made.
Meet regularly with program staff to assess ongoing web needs:
a) Schedule regular meetings with program staff.
b) Stay abreast of PHR activities within the content areas for which s/he is responsible.
Write and edit copy.
a) Compose headlines, blurbs and summary text for newsletters and web pages.
b) Write member profiles, conduct interviews, create online course material and other content features.
c) Edit content provided by program staff for grammar, style, spelling, and punctuation.
Prepare photos and create web graphics:
a) Select, crop and prepare photos for web use, making improvements and adjustments in Photoshop.
b) Create text and other graphics, maintaining PHR brand standards.
Research photos; communicate with photo agencies and photographers and monitor copyright compliance:
a) Find and select images for web use.
b) Communicate with photographers and photo agencies
c) Ensure that PHR's use of images is in compliance with agency contracts and that photographers and agencies are properly credited.
Liaise with the Programmer and GetActive on the production of forms and other automated functionality:
a) Communicate with the Programmer and GetActive to determine the technical options and what information is needed for specific projects.
b) Translate technical requirements to PHR staff, solicit the necessary information, and project manage the production.
c) Create the design aspects of forms and other functional content.
d) Work with Development Data Analyst on related database fields for forms
Oversee the production of multimedia and other content features, working with consultants as needed.
Plan and produce Google Ad campaigns related to PHR campaigns; compose ads and monitor analytics.
Supervise and train interns and volunteers.
a) Review internship applications and interview candidates.
Serve as Team Captain of the web team on a quarterly basis. This is a rotating responsibility among web team members and consists of monitoring the workflow calendar, organizing team meetings, and preparing quarterly and board meeting reports.
Assist with preparation of annual web budget.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and at least 3-4 years related creative work experience with a nonprofit organization
Strong knowledge of graphic design, color management and typography for the web
Experience working with site(s) run by a content management system, Get Active WSM/Convio CMS experience a plus.
Proficiency in web production, including advanced skills in HTML and CSS.
Proven editorial and writing skills. Fastidious about spelling and producing clean copy.
Experience with video production for the web, especially YouTube preferred.
Organizational and project management skills.
Proficiency in photo manipulation and graphic creation, Photoshop skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Previous experience with online fundraising campaigns desired.
Familiarity with pay-per-click advertising and website marketing
Familiarity with use of online social networks and listbuilding such as Faceboook and MySpace
Demonstrated commitment to human rights.
